Fighting Crime during Labor Day Weekend at Long Beach Comic Con

It’s not easy being a hero, and while many civilians had a three day weekend to enjoy with family and friends I decided to pull a double shift to protect the planet from evil. As Wonder Woman (@TheGeekyGuide) I got a lead that some of Arkham’s master criminals were up to no good at Long Beach Comic Con and with some help from the Justice League we were able to put them all behind bars.

Parked my invisible jet on the front lot and went into action with DC cosplayers
It’s not often that my geekiness oozes out on these blog posts (although it’s starting to become more frequent). I was really excited to share some of the new adventures at this convention. Saturday was excruciatingly hot and I felt like I was going to melt, but I loved cosplaying with so many DC Comic cosplayers! I met up with some friends who I’ve seen at other conventions and made some new friends.

The convention itself was a medium sized one and showcased a large number of vendors and independent artists. I will say that because the great hall was located downstairs it evoked a type of indoor swap meet type of feel with an emphasis on comic books and collectibles. Nevertheless, I would definitely return next year so I can meet-up with and see all my favorite characters brought to life.

I’m thinking about becoming a villain next time – who should I portray? 😀

Savoring flavors at the Los Angeles Times – The Taste

When I think of Labor Day Weekend I think of families and friends coming together to enjoy food and friendship, so when it came time again to attend the LA Times Annual Tasting event I was thrilled for another evening of scrumptious noms and sips. Saturday evening’s event entitled “Dinner with a twist hosted by Jonathan Gold” was almost too hot to handle, but a treat when enjoyed with people with great taste!

Food samples and Jonathan Gold, Phil Rosenthal and me!

During the tasting my friends and sampled some unique flavor combinations in the Paramount Studios Lot. Some of my favorites were the black ink squid soup dumplings from Little Fatty as well as the lamb bacon and fig from Wolf. Yum! But the highlight of the night definitely was watching Phil Rosenthal (I’ll Have What Phil’s Having), and LA Time’s Food Critic Jonathan Gold speak about their culinary adventures on stage.

News coverage for Tour Taiwan

The evening also supported tourism for various countries and naturally I gravitated towards the motherland. The Tour Taiwan booth allowed “The Taste” attendees to sample Tea Station’s latte with artwork and boba and play games to win prizes. I was briefly interviewed as a past Miss Taiwanese World titleholder and got to mix and mingle with some other media personalities.

Which country has the best food?

Kicking off the Ultimate Bites of LA hosted by Curtis Stone (Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival) with glitz and glamour

If I were a celebrity this is how I would imagine an Oscar afterparty to look like – patrons dressed to impress, a red carpet filled with the best chef’s showcasing signature dishes, and booze galore! While I may not be an Oscar recipient anytime soon, this foodie red carpet event was nothing short of spectacular. Held just outside the Walt Disney Concert Hall (111 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA), I had the opportunity alongside @FoodieJudge (Instagram Food Influencer) to attend the kick-off party to celebrate the 7th Annual Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival.

During the event we enjoyed the kick-off celebration entitled – the “Ultimate Bites of LA hosted by Curtis Stone” which featured some of LA’s most celebrated culinary talent from Downtown, Westside, Hollywood and MidCity/Beverly Hills. There was a DJ spinning pop tunes, photographers capturing every moment, and a plethora of delectable bites and strong spirits to enjoy. Some dish highlights include the BBQ Pork Brisket from Belcampo Meat Co, donuts from The Church Key, sugar custard from 71 Above, and sandwiches from Fleishik’s  #nomnom!

Kick-off party!

I definitely felt like this was one of the most glamorous tastings I’ve ever attended and one thing that I loved about this event was the VIP treatment! The lines were short and the servers took away all finished plates and drinks throughout the event keeping the venue in impeccable condition. If you consider yourself a food and wine connoisseur this is definitely the place to be.

What would you be most excited to try at the LA Food and Wine event?
